Borneo – Day 07 – Wednesday 03 July

Day seven saw us heading off to the North Borneo Railway for a trip on a gorgeous old steam train into the rural areas south of KK.
The train meandered through the low lying coastal areas, stopping at a couple of towns along the way to allow time for some sight-seeing on foot.
Roughly 90 minutes later, we terminated at a village called Papar, where we had an hour to look around, while the locomotive was decoupled, spun around on a turntable and recoupled for the return journey.
Once our return journey had commenced, lunch was served on board. We got to watch the scenery go bo over a lovely four course meal and a glass of red. Very civilised, if I do say so myself.
Once back in KK, we visited the city’s main mosque. As most of us were dressed in shorts and t-shirts, this required dressing up in the full head-to-toe garb as per muslim doctrine. To be honest, I was a little surprised that the taking of photographs was allowed.
After that, we enjoyed (an all-too brief) visit to a lovely Chinese temple. I could have stayed there for hours taking photos.
