Singapore – Day 15 – Thursday 11 July

Well, it’s all over.
We checked out of the Shangri-La and took a cab to the airport.
And like most travellers, once you start your homeward journey, you just want it to be over.
That was us, for sure.
Didn’t want to leave, but sure as heck didn’t want to be in transit either.
As we lifted off and banked out over the South China Sea, Max and Cath were both a bit teary-eyed.
Two hours later, we touched down in Singapore, where we were supposed to be catching up with Rakesh, a good mate of mine and former resident of Sydney now residing in Singapore. Trouble was, just 24 hours prior, his boss had informed him that he (Rakesh) was flying to Indonesia today for a business/breakfast meeting.
You have got to be kidding me! We’d been planning this reunion for 6 months!
Oh well.
Now we have 6 hours to kill and no plans!
We cleared customs and immigration at Changi, headed down to the MRT (Singapore’s commuter train network is called Mass Rapid Transit) and bought ourselves 3 day passes which would allow us unlimited use of the network.
We headed into the city and got off at Harbourside, wandered around the “Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands”, saw the Merlion, found ourselves some souvenirs, and by the time we’d done all that, it was time to hop back on the MRT and head back out to Changi.

And I’d happily go back there, too.
I spent a week there in ’97, but I was working, so didn’t get to see a lot of it.
From memory, the night safari tour at Singapore Zoo is awesome, and I’m sure Max would love that.
So, back on a plane to Sydney and then a 2 hour drive to home.
Our Borneo adventure is all over…. for now.
We are DEFINITELY going back in a couple of years time, and we’ll make sure we get to see the East Coast next time!
