Day 07 – December 22

The Nullarbor Plain.
Australian readers, I beseech you… do this drive at least once in your life.
Yes, it’s long.
Yes, it can be monotonous.
Yes, fuel WILL cost you an arm and a leg (we saw Premium 98 at $2.08/litre. For the Americans, that’s about $9.50/gallon by today’s exchange rate).
But I promise you, you will see things you won’t see anywhere else in this country.
Wedge-tailed eagles in numbers almost greater than that of the vehicles sharing the highway with you (a great shot coming next week).
The majestic sweep of the Great Australian Bight.
The old jetty and the time-scarred (and sand-enveloped) remains of the Old Telegraph Station at Eucla (pics of both in this set).
The amazing view from the lookout at the top of the Madura Pass (a 15 second detour off the highway… panorama coming later).
Yep, definitely a trip you should do once in your life.
For us, today was the stretch between Streaky Bay and Eucla. I have heard about the Old Telegraph Station ruins for years and have always wanted to shoot them. Finally, that dream has been accomplished. Not only did I get these late afternoon pics, but I will also pop back down in the morning before we hit the road again to try and catch them in the early morning light.

Hey Bruce
It is great to see that someone has been busy moving sand. The last time I was at the Telegraph Station(approx 1990) it was nearly all covered by sand.
