Day 02 – December 17

We headed back out to the zoo in the morning, and indeed the animals were a bit more active and visible.
But my head was elsewhere.
I knew we wanted to get down to Parkes and check out ‘The Dish’ (as it is colloquially known… most Aussies are familiar with the movie of that name). More correctly, it is known as the CSIRO Parkes radio telescope. During the Apollo 11 moon landing in ’69, Parkes was able to keep in touch with Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins when the U.S. lost direct line-of-sight contact.
That was obviously going to take some time out of our day.
Then, we wanted to put another 200km behind us and get to Lake Cargelligo for the night.
And because we were planning on spending most nights of this trip camping in the tent, that meant wanting to reach our destination while there was still daylight.
So, my head wasn’t really into taking more animal shots.
We managed to cram it all in, and still get to Lake Cargelligo by about 17:00, which gave us a good couple of hours to set up camp.
Time even to head out for a couple of sunset shots over the lake!
Sweet.
