Really?
Already?
Meh.
In all honesty, I will be glad to be home, and crazy as it might sound, I think I’ll be glad to go back to work. What I’m NOT looking forward to is the crazy cold winter that Sydney has put on in the 3 weeks we’ve been gone.
When we were up in Kudat last weekend, I was talking to a couple from The Netherlands about it (the weather in Sydney) and they simply laughed at me. I guess all things are relative!
We got ourselves a late check out from the hotel, left our bags there, and caught a cab to a nearby shopping centre to kill a couple of hours…
The depression was kicking in hard by this stage.
We wandered the shops aimlessly, knowing that all we were doing was filling the gap between the here and now… and the inevitable. Having to head to the airport for the beginning of the trip home.
We caught a cab back to the hotel to pick up our luggage and then proceeded to Terminal One at Kinabalu International Airport. We ended up at Starbucks inside the departure hall, sipping on an uninspiring iced coffee (iced chocolate for Max) for which we’d paid more than we’d paid for any drink since we’d arrived 3 weeks ago. That simply added to the melancholy. The sun slid toward the horizon, signalling the end of the world. Or so it seemed.
We took off after the sun had set, and settled in for the 2 hour flight to Singapore.
We again had just a touch more than a 3 hour stopover at Changi.
I grabbed some dinner, while Cath picked up some souvenirs and Max availed himself of the entertainment lounge.
Our flight to Sydney ended up being delayed by just over an hour, so we didn’t take off until 02:00. And for once, I was unable to get any sleep on an overnight flight. Just great.
We arrived at Mascot around 11:00 Saturday morning, tired and a bit grumpy.
We picked Aztec up from the friends who had graciously looked after him on our behalf, and hit the freeway for home.
Another great adventure comes to a close. I guess now we start planning the next one….
