Sunday 4th August
We landed at Bandaranaike International Airport around 23:30 local time on Saturday night, some 26 hours after waking up in Gosford.
Our hire car company ferried us to their depot, got us in our car, and off we headed for our nearby accommodation.
Sunday morning, we hit the road for Colombo itself, where we had booked an Air B’n’B with a husband and wife pair of Doctors.
We wandered the streets for a while, checking out Viharamahadevi Park with its various statues, including the Buddha (the first of thousands).
Later, we looked through the floating Buddhist Temple, Seema Malakaya.
It was obvious that this would be a spot worth revisiting in the evening, and given that your entrance ticket is good for the day, we decided to come back later.
